Head’s up, this is a bit promotional lol
My day job is changing.
Right now I make, just enough, money to pay my bills. But I am hustling all over the place right now.
Full transparency, I make $1600 a month. (Oh god my insides are cringing and screaming literally at the same time)
The bitch in my head is shouting DON”T TELL PEOPLE THAT and YOU SHOULD BE FUCKING THANKFULL YOU EVEN MAKE THAT MUCH BITCH!
Now, I am VERY blessed by the universe that relative to others, my expenses are lower. So I can get by with help from the govt and that income, ANNNNDDD my partner. But I’m just getting by. It is SO exhausting.
And come middle of August, my hours are getting cut by 2/3.
What the fuck is the point of me telling you that?
Well a few reasons.
•I hope maybe this will encourage some of you to become a paid subscriber
• As a very public way of presenting my non resume resume
• To explain why I even started my Substack in the first place
OBVIOUSLY,
I would love for every single one of my subscribers to become paid subscribers. But I completely understand that, that is illogical. Why? IDK it just is. I don’t think it’s logical to think like that. BUT I do believe there are more of you out there who want to be able to say they new the world famous author Taylor Cecelia Brook, BEFORE, she was famous lol I’m only half kidding.
I NEED A WRITING JOB
OK. SO. If I actually want to get paid for writing, I need to find places where I can get my foot in the door. I’m great at a lot of things. I’m a top teer Executive Assistant, but what I really want is somewhere that will pay me $2,000 a month, for working max 20 hours a week, and just writing. I’m not asking for a lot. But I have learned that when I put all my things out in the universe to all my people, SHIT WORKS. I spent a year blogging with ZERO traction. I’ve been here 4 months and it’s been exponentially better. I’ve made more money in 2 months on here, with my 2 paid subscribers, than I did in that entire year.
So I’m done settling for less. I got tired of settling for that in my marriage and it’s time for me to apply that to the rest of my life.
With that said.
This is the reason I started my Substack.
The ability to make money for just being me, that wasn’t like the rest of the platforms? Yes absolutely. Sign me up for the full fucking package. But I'll be honest. Yes. I am here for the money. But I am also STILL here because I actually fucking love writing. I had forgotten that. YOU ALL gave that back to me. You gave back that creative fold in my brain and it has taken off like a squirrel being chased by one of my giants. It’s unbelievable how I have LONGED to write and interact on this platform in a way I never have before.
I come from a line of writers and poets. Fuck, my mom literally has a masters in English Composition. (One would think my natural grammar skills would be better. NOPE FULL REBELLION ←—- only kind of kidding). It was in there waiting to be pulled out. You all helped me with that. I have met so MANY people in the last 4 months who have revolutionized my life.
This is the very first time I have ever asked for something so boldly for myself. I have zero problems asking people for money for nonprofits. It has a purpose. I have zero problems asking for things for my kids, it has a purpose. It took me until the last few weeks to fully understand that my writing has a purpose. And I do deserve to be paid for it. But if that’s going to happen, it’s because my dreams of being paid for literally just talking about myself and my life, came true. And that means I get actually paid. And that has to start somewhere. I can’t magically pull that shit out of my ass.
I’m taking this wage decrease as an opportunity to grow in my writing career. It’s going to give me the time I’ve been asking the universe for. It’s going to give me the freedom to pursue more writing projects. It’s going to help me get my book out faster.
Anyway, should you know someone who might be looking for someone. Or you have ideas for me. Here is my skills that are not writing based… notice that I don’t have a single one in there that has hardly any writing?
Housekeeping
Organizing
Baby Sitting
Dog Sitting/Walking
Cooking
Fantastic Executive Assistant
Personal Training
Insurance Agent for AFLAC
Claims adjuster for Mortgage claims
HOTWORX employee
And the only one that I did any kind of “writing” in, was running my Nonprofit Lily’s List for 5 years. And it obviously wasn’t anything like this writing.
Before this, I got a bachelors in Psychology (did lots of writing) and graduated with a 3.9gpa in 3 years. And a Masters of Science in Organizational Leadership and Management and graduated with the equivalent of a 4.0gpa in 8 months. I had SO MUCH fun completing my masters and it was 90% writing. That is the only reason why I graduated so quickly.
But I LOVE THIS writing.
There have been 2 constant dreams in my life since I was a wee kid (aside from being a mom): Being a writer and being a professional musician. And I am finally working on both :)
ANYWAY,
Thanks for reading my not so subtle cry for help.
Hopefully you got SOMETHING from it lol
Much Love,
Taylor Cecelia Brook
P.S. Know someone? Want to blast to the world that I’m broke? Want to cycle this more into the universe? I’d love if you commented or shared. It means a lot!!
Taylor, you are such a brave, bold, badass and if there's one thing I know, fortune favors the bold. You're setting off a chain reaction and I *know* it's going to lead to amazing insights and opportunity in one way or another!!! Cheering you on MASSIVELY!! If I know of people looking for a fantastic executive assistant I will let you know!!!
Here's some brainstormed in real time (aka take with a grain of salt lol) ideas:
-Network with local biz groups or business owners where you can pitch your valuable executive assistant skills to help the overwhelmed biz owners. Their time sucked up = money lost. Win for them and you.
-Pitch local businesses to write blogs/content for them.
-Send a personal text/email to your close contacts (family/friends/colleagues) that you're looking for a (virtual?) executive assistant role and/or blog/copywriter for companies. Personal outreach is 1,000% better odds at getting people to put on their "helpful/thinking cap" to think of people they know, opportunities, etc.
-Look for well paying nanny jobs.
-Polish up your resume & apply to higher paying jobs (executive assistant, business admin, education(?), etc.) to make that money hunni and build up a cushion that affords you more freedom & flexibility in the future as you pursue what you really love (<- currently my strategy lol)
-Offer virtual home organizing/cleaning services
-Network in local groups to offer home organization services
-Brand sponsorships... any products that you use/love/are crazy about that you could get sponsored from the brand?
-Start a side stack called something like "Taylor's Tries to Get Rich" and document everything on your quest. 1) ppl are hella curious & I think would eat that shit up (bigger following = easier to monetize) 2) what better way to light a fire of determination than in real time with eye balls watching (note: this could be best or worst idea ever. Please consider all downsides carefully 😅) I've thought about doing something like this. Maybe I will hmm lol.
-Keep manifesting, visualizing big thinking and asking for what you need. 💛
-Look for opportunities to guest post and/or guest podcast to grow your following.
-Link to any paid offers in footer of emails to make it easy for ppl to pay/hire you.
-Keep testing and experimenting with putting paid offers out there. (And if something blombs? No such thing as failure, just insight and wisdom leading you closer to what's perfect for you).
TL;DR
You're amazing and I KNOW you're on the right path. You've got this!!! 💛💛💛💛💛
You have a lot of folks in your corner ... and deservedly so ...
